The Rue Guyale was in ancient times the centre of activity for the merchant corporations. It leads towards the Valentine Hugo gardens which are named after the French painter who was born at Boulogne’s Capecure neighbourhood in 1887.
She was the great grand-daughter of Victor Hugo and her talents brought her widespread recognition. She was also known for her book illustrations and work in theatre design. She had important links to the great artistic trends of the turn of the century, and knew key figures such as Picasso, Cocteau, Proust.
